avoiding probate? by Reg[_2_]
I am a widower with one adult child. My will is straight forward, every thing goes to my son. I have a modest house and some savings and investments. Is there any thing I can do now to minimise the hassle and paperwork he may encounter on my death. I was wondering if there were any steps I could take to avoid him having to apply for probate. (other than signing everything over to him now) ...

Can I leave a debt (to me) to my children in my will? by RobertL
As part of my divorce settlment I made a loan to my wife to enable her to buy a better house than she could otherwise afford. This loan is secured by a charge on the house. the divorce was about 10 years ago. We have two adult children. In my will, can I leave the debt to the children? Is these a standard way of wording such a bequest or do I need to consult a solicitor?

Vicarious liability of networks for mobile agents by Doug Giles
Many consumers have lost in some cases quite significant sums of money where they have entered into mobile phone contracts with supposed cashback via agents of mobile networks, only to lose the supposed contractual cashback when the agent becomes insolvent. In many cases recently the insolvency of agents has been largely due to the mobile networks encouraging their agents to offer contracts with...

making and selling food? by bealoid
I was watching telly - "Willy's Wonky Chocolate Factory" and he's making a bunch of food to be sold at a farmer's market. What kind of regs do people have to follow to make and sell food to the public?

Named as executor - right to refuse by Traveller[_3_]
I'm currently studying law (I know, may the gods help me..) and because of this, plus a perception that I'm an efficient administrator (how easy it is to deceive...) I'm told that I've been named as the executor for a relative's estate when they pass on. I *suppose* I'm willing to undertake this task, but it raises some questions that my studies haven't brought me to yet: - does a testator...

International Bankruptcy question by meow2222@care2.com
Hi Unless I'm misinformed, differing EU countries have different periods of time it takes for a bankrupt person to be discharged. What therefore happens if a Dutch person, which country has a 3 year period, moves abroad to the UK and declares bankruptcy here instead? Presumably under UK law they are discharged much sooner. If they then go home: 1. are they treated as already bankrupt, or is the...

My uninsured parked car hit by lorry by vokf
I have an old car that I have sold (via ebay.), this was due to be collected tonight (friday) The insurance has been cancelled, but the car does have valid TAX and MOT. Last night, the car was damaged by a lorry, which also went on to hit 3 other cars in the street (which I can assume were insured) The police were in attendance when I arrived, and I have the driver (and his employers) details.

Can an executor simply walk away ? by Roly
I've been pursuing a matter relating to some shares that were owned by my brother, who died 8 years ago, but were never cashed during the winding up of his estate. It would appear that many of the dividend cheques have not been cashed either. Following some very helpful advice from people here, I've made progress and there appears to be considerable malministration over that matter. The...

Does anyone in the group know of a good newsgroup that can cater for disability issues ie. espesially part M of building regulation that must be DDA Compliant and other LEGAL access isues, or can anyone please point me in the direction of the best web page to look at or anything that can be downloaded. Nowaday's meaning of "illegal"? by troysteadman@yahoo.co.uk
An HMRC Inspector is phoning people semi-randomly and asking them to disclose information about other people. My friend's £300 an hour accountant insists that is "illegal", which irritates me more than it probably should, because to me "illegal" is reserved for criminal acts as in "call the police". Not "breaking the rules", "acting improperly" etc.. Anyone care to fight their side or better...

X-No-Archive: Failed Business Venture - Legal Fee Distribution by velodocuk@yahoo.co.uk
X-No-Archive: Hi, can anyone help me with this one. Basically, joint business purchase venture with 3 others. For valid reasons myself and one other have pulled out before signing; the project is still viable for the others. Can the remaining people temporarily suspend the project, distribute the legal bills for payment (so me 25%) and then proceed even though the legal bills would be similar...

Christmas: working Christmas Day by Sam[_3_]
The CAB web site: http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/life/employment/holidays_and_holiday_pay.htm Says that: "There are special rules for shop-workers in England and Wales who work in large shops (over 280 square feet). If you work in one of these shops, you must be given Christmas Day off, regardless of which day it falls on. However, whether or not you will be paid will depend on your...

Appearance at work by Sam[_3_]
Hi, Further to my other ASDA related posts, my girlfriend has now been told that all female employees must tie their hair back at all times. Whilst this may be sensible for those working with food, it seems wrong to force those who have no contact with food to wear their hair tied-up. I remember some years ago I worked for a company whose rules stated you could not have tatooes or piercings on...

Declaration of material facts when applying for a life assurance policy by GB
I just thought you would like to see the importance of telling your insurers in advance that you intend to defraud them. Fraud Patel v Windsor Life Assurance Company Limited (Comm) 25/1/08 The Claimant was the beneficiary under a number of life insurance policies on the life of a third party. The Claimant had assisted on completing the application forms. At trial the Claimant could not...

Interview Time by Topref
My daughter has been informed that if she was to be interviewed for a job, her current employer MUST allow her to have the time to do so, or at least re-arrange her day off to accomodate this. I can't see this as being true. Can anyone advise please?
