Can you find out if searches have been done by
Ken
Is there any way of finding out, if the solicitor for the purchaser, has
requested/obtained searches from the local authority in a house transaction?
That is apart from asking the purchaser and/or their solicitor.

Legality of photographing people on property without permission by
Nogood Boyo[_2_]
If I own fishing rights on a stretch of river and people fish that
water without my permission (an offence under the Theft Act), am I
entitled to photograph them for identification and evidence purposes?
Could I do it covertly (to avoid confrontation)?
At approx what age would the photographing of children in such
circumstances become problematic?

Fake ID - kept by shopkeeper? by
bealoid
Is a shopkeeper allowed to keep FakeIDs if they're used top buy alcohol, or
is that some form of theft? Is it a defence that he's stopping someone
commiting a crime?
What should a shopkeeper do in this situation?

Loss of bargain? by
TimB
I ordered a DVD package from an online retailer towards the end of
November. This package consisted of two DVD boxsets, but was being
sold as a single product priced at £40 - i.e. no opportunity to buy
either product seperately, and no indication that either product is a
free gift with the other. The cheaper boxset usually retails at around
£20-30, and the more expensive set retails at around...

Lost parcel by
archierob[_2_]
My son bought some drum kit of a vendor via ebay. He has the money for
this - £100 and in fairness to him he dispatched the goods via
Business Parcels. This company admits it has lost the parcel. They
explain that only the sender can claim compensation - I was given a
number by that company of the vendor, when I phoned it turned out to
be Portsmouth CC offices, he was apparently an ex...

Property release (photography) by
Steve Firth
I have cause to believe that local authority officers have entered my
property to make images of my home without my express permission. As far
as I understand the law in respect to images of private property it is
acceptable to photograph a private building from a public space for any
reason and to use that image without consent. However any photograph
taken within the building or from its...

Refused entry to nightclub but no money back by
macson
8 of us had prepaid tickets but were refused entry (8 men No Women!!)
not given our money back on door. Question - The 'club night' promoter
(Azuli) is saying they are not responsible as the door was manned by
employees of the actual Club (the physical building so to speak: ie
The Cross in Kings Cross) Azuli has our money but who do we sue?

Employers extreme pressure on employees by

Hello.
Not sure if ths group can advise on this matter but here goes anyway.
My wife works as a community carer and has to work her normnal shift
pattern year round, incl. bank and public holidays. On Christmas and
Boxing day, her hourly rate is slightly enhanced by 20%. However, her
employers have recently written to all the employees advising that if
any sick days are taken between 18th Dec...

Weekend days as annual leave entitlement? by
tempsc
Just as an aside to my previous post, we would also like to receive
advice on the following matter too.
The company my wife works for insist that all the employees work two
full weekends in every month - that is all day Saturday and Sunday. 1
weekend on, 1 weekend off.
When booking her annual leave entitlement, which at the moment is 22
days, she has to be very careful so as not to include any...

Heresy? by
GB
I am confused about the position of the UK teacher imprisoned in Sudan for
naming a teddy-bear Mohamed. Why is everyone being so sympathetic? She has
gone to Sudan and broken one of their laws. Surely, she should expect to be
tried, and punished?
I am just trying to work out what would happen if a Sudanese teacher came to
the UK and named the classroom teddy bear Jesus Christ, maybe nailing...

Tax on cash gifts from abroad by
Bruno Panetta
If my parents in Italy sent me a large cash gift (say over £50,000),
how much tax would I have to pay on it in the UK? I have checked the
rules for cash gifts but they all seem to apply only to gifts
originating in this country, with the donor being taxed.
Thanks,
Bruno

Rights of licensees by
Fergus O'Rourke
It has been represented to me that in Westminster, and in England generally,
unlike in Ireland, the manager of a pub can:
1. Search the personal possessions of patrons on demand, if s/he suspects
the presence of illegal substances
2. Exclude without giving a reason anyone at any time without fear of being
faced with a claim for unfair discrimination .
The latter is plausible to me but the...

Family Proceedings - an object lesson in how not to do it by
GB
Whig v Whig EWHC 1856 (Fam) Family: What happens when an estranged
spouse declares bankruptcy to avoid ancillary relief? Munby J had a few
things to say.
The case can be read here (in case the above link does not come out
correctly): http://www.xproexperts.co.uk/newsletters/jan08/Whig%20Case.pdf
It's particularly worth reading the first few paras about costs. It's
unusual for 'family'...

Online purchase received by purchase after a refund by
sdm@answerit.co.uk
Back in October we had a purchase in our online shop which was
dispatched like any other order, this was just before the postal
strikes. After the item was not delivered after 3 weeks the Royal
Mail said it could now be declared as lost, so we refunded the
customer and submitted a claim to Royal Mail because the item was sent
recorded delivery.
I checked online yesterday with the tracking...

Question regarding definitions used in legal document ? by
m.tippen
I have question but it relates to Us not Uk law.
My question then is how one is meant to establish an agreement or
consent to terms in legal document if the terms appear to be "
unoffical " i.e. not documented in dicitionary
This question relates to well know competition by skeptic in the US
called James Randi which you can read here . ( rule no 12 " media
presence " )

Intent as an ingredient of crime by
GB
Opening my Saturday Times, I found two articles side by side of drivers
convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.
The first was a diabetic who got his blood/sugar balance wrong and blacked
out. 4 years 6 months for that.
The second was a lorry driver who has an undiagnosed sleep disorder and fell
asleep at the wheel. Sentence to be determined but he was told by the judge
to expect...
