How long does a court order last? by tony.b@false.by.email.address.com
I took someone to court a few years ago over some money they owed me and the court ordered them to pay but never collected the money. Is there a limit on the amount of time they can go after the money? Is there some sort of "statute of limitations" or whatever it may be called? -Tony Bendio-

Job walkout - Holiday/Backpay owed? by Kontaminator
I walked out of a job back in August. I recieve a letter the other day stating that I had an obligation to provide at least one week's notice to terminate contract, as per Section 86 (2) of the Employment Rights Act 1996. I did walk out as I fed up, tense and angry about working there. Don't have a doctors note or any medical document that confirms my mental wellbeing, only myself and...

Enquiry on information collected by the Government by Nick Sterling
If the UK Government has collected information about someone, and the individual seeks to obtain this information, are there any legislative provisions for this? Beyond the Freedom of Information Act? Are there any reasons why such a request would fail, or otherwise not be honoured by the agency who collected the information?

Should this be a counter-claim ....? by GB
Should this be a counter-claim .... or doesn't it matter? My long-running fees case, where a client did not pay his fees in 2005 is still running, with many slips and turns. The client is now claiming that I did not do all the work required and as a result he has needed to get his accountant to carry out several hundreds of Pounds worth of extra work for him. Purely on a procedural question,...

injury significance ( general opinion of judges) by guess who
I'd like to ask if I may the opinion on a point of law in regards the limitations act and the concept of significance. I had what I considered a non significant impact accident at work, I had just under 3 days off, a bruise and was sore for say ten days, but the sensation improved. I did not consult my GP, I lost no money, nor did my prospects suffer as a result. Only later did it become...

Hi, I own a flat which I rent out. It is not mortgaged. I no longer need the income from it . I am at the stage where I want to transfer it as a Potentially Exempt Transfer (PET) to my two sons aged 16 and 18 and I am willing to pay any CGT that arises from the transfer. I want to split the ownership 95% between my sons and retain 5% for myself -just so they can't flog it off without my...

Unreasonable employment contract terms by Ian Jackson
A friend who is looking to change jobs has been presented by the new employer with their standard employment contract which has a number of questionable terms. She asked me to have a look as I've had more experience with this kind of thing. It's a pretty scary document. Is there any legal protection against unfair or unreasonable contract terms in employment contracts ? I looked for suitable...

insurance payout denied by PassingTyke
As one of the executors of a friend's will, I made a claim against life insurance policy she had taken out. I have just been informed that the company has declined the claim as they say that my friend did not answer all the questions correctly on her application form. Apparently, there were discrepancies when compared to her medical records. I don't have the details yet (I'm expecting...

Trying to find details on solicitor. by simon.hawking@googlemail.com
I'm looking to find out if someone is qualified or training in the legal profession. Have good reasons, but need to know best place to look. Google results have been of little help..... The person in question is described on their employers bumf as ".....was expanded with the appointment of another lawyer......". To me that says this person's qualified, so should be traceable - surely even if...

Insurance theft claim by D.M. Procida
My bicycle was stolen on Friday night. When I was speaking to the insurance company on Saturday, I asked whether the claim could be withdrawn if the bike were recovered soon. I didn't get a very clear answer and I had more important things to pursue with them, so I dropped the question, but the woman I spoke to seemed to be saying that once the claim was submitted that was that. What is the...

Argos - exempt from 30 MB Guarantee by Him & Her
Recently purchased a new sat nav from Argos (because I had to use gift vouchers from a broken item). Anyway, the website says it comes with "Safety camera 12 months free subscription". Having used it for a couple of days I can see that the camera database is woefully incomplete / out of date. Attempting to update it through the manufacturers website meets with a blanket "please pay us 30+ pounds...
