ready to collapse by
vinnie
i'm renting on a yearly leasing contract, an apt at the second floor
in a nice apt complex (residence).
After 2 months, exactly yesterday afternoon, i came back from work,
and found out that on the patio (which is made of cement and defined
as common area in the contract) a big crap like a " T " (seems like
the patio as been broken hlf and half). I fell really scared that all
can...

Powers of Security Officers by
greyprimer
What powers do security officers have in stores etc, I was watching a
programme on TV recently, two security officers grabbed a suspect who they
suspected of stealing in a store, forcibly removed him to a holding cell,
searched him for stolen goods and held him in the cell until police came, I
have been told they cannot restrain or search and only have the same powers
of arrest as as other member...

Buying the freehold by
yogi
I bought a leasehold property (a bungalow) last September using my
solicitor and am now planning to buy the freehold (price already
agreed plus freeholder's legal costs). Do I need to do all the
searches etc. again or can I just rely on the freeholder, i.e. do I
need to incur the same legal costs again as I did when I bought the
property last year? If it's just a few searches, I could do...

help for the court! by
vinnie
i own an house, that i share with a friend. He is late from 3-4 days
on the rent: he told to keep the deposit (half month) , and let him
leave for another house. I did not want to give him the deposit, and a
changed the lock at the entrance. We have no written contract, so all
was verbal.
He wants to pick up his stuff from the room, but they are the only
"warranty" i have to get the money.

More money claims online by
GB
I am going through chasing up old debts at the moment, which is why I am
having lots of issues concerning that.
This next debt is due from someone who does have the money to pay, and does
not dispute that it is payable. He just has not got round to paying it (for
two years!).
There are 4 invoices outstanding, with a total of a bit less than the 5k
small claims limit. Adding interest takes...

Leeds Utd - Administration? by
A.Lee
(apologies if this is not in the relevant group, though I thought it was
more legal than accounting).
Leeds Utd Football Club went into administration yesterday, with
reported debts of around £25million. Apparently HM C&E had served a
winding up order on them, for a £5m debt which had to be paid in 2
months. This could not be paid, so KPMG were brought in as
Administrators.
Now, a rather dodgy...

Solictors Bill by
Steve
I'm going through a divorce and progress has been slow. But it seems to
me it is slow cos the solictors seem to be trying to score legal points
over each other. It's been going since November 2006.
My ex and I decided enough is enough and we'll do it ourselves, since we
have no real issues but I wonder what recourse I have re the bill I
received for 1000 quid?
Is there a law society...

Another internet domain question by
a@b.invalid
Over the years I've registered a number of domains with one of the cheap
agents. The agent in question charges a "move away" fee, which is why
I haven't moved them elsewhere before now.
These domains are registered on a 2 years in advance basis, and come
with basic a email and web forwarding package.
Now the agent has decided that it wants to charge a 4.99GBP/month/domain
charge for email...

Offence code 400???? by
Jewel
We got up this morning to find a fixed penalty notice attached to our car,
which was correctly parked outside our house and it was issued at 4.15AM. It
says "Offence code 400" Then handwritten "VRM - fail to comply regs"
anyone any ideas what on earth it's for?

Money claim online by
GB
I issued a claim through money claim online, no defence was filed, and
judgment has been issued in my favour. The next step seems to be to get a
warrant issued, but the local court warrants office (where I assume this
would be transferred to, from Nottingham) are notoriously slow. Can I employ
private bailiffs instead? Is there any other sensible course for getting the
money? It's quite a...

Question for a friend :-) by
Simon Finnigan
Hi all,
I`ve been asked by a friend, working as a receptionist in a solicitors firm,
to ask this question here. Basically the firm in question does a lot of
work to do with wills, and is named as the executor on a lot of these wills.
The firm is considering becoming a Ltd company, but they are unsure as to
the status of the existing wills - would a will naming (for example) the
then...

How to Benefit Financially from Introducing Business Partners - Contracts etc by

I am a freelance marketing consultant for a telecommunications company,

I am paid on an hourly rate for my time - to a maximum of about 35 hours per

leads are producing - I obtain appointments for demonstrations of the
product - and the MD has started that I obtain...

Possible dodgy fuel problems & claim complications by
TrentSC
I have just bought a second-hand car which is displaying symptoms that may
(and I stress MAY) be due to the previous owner filling it with the dodgy
fuel that caused so many problems a month or so ago.
It goes without saying that it will require a garage to accurately to
diagnose the problem and likely cause, but in the even that the dodgy fuel
additive was the cause, I'm interested in...

Cheque clearance/stopping by
Cullen Skink
A few years ago I remember reading a thread or two suggesting that cheques
can be stopped months after they have cleared. I mentioned this at the time
to a friend who recently asked me about it again as he paid for goods
amounting to around £350 by cheque and the seller has failed to supply them.
He asked his bank but they have said once the cheque has cleared that is it.
I have searched...

of hours to help out until they found replacement cover in the reasonable
near future.
I got on well with management / directors over my nearly...

Deducting overpayment from salary by
PhilC
Incorrectly posted to uk.legal -
Quite an involved scenario but here goes - work for NHS (therefore by
definition not overly generous salary).
Started work as contractor from November 2004 then became staff - not sure
this is relevant.
During this time my salary was revised as part of Agenda for Change. When
this revision took place the Primary Care Trust apparently made a
miscalculation this...
