Email retention by a government body by
Simon Finnigan
Hi all,
I`m looking for information on any legal obligation for a government body to
retain emails. How long they have to keep them for, methods of access,
anything like that.
Does anyone have any relevant links or information?
Thanks for your help!

Mandatory leave days query by
Lord Edam de Fromage
(specific organisation name removed. We're in the education sector)
I asked HR to calculate my remaining leave because I'm resigning and
they've decided to remove two days for the christmas period.
Normally, we receive an email before christmas asking us to give our
leave cards to HR to have days taken from our annual leave entitlement
to cover the christmas shutdown.
They give us two...

trying to cancel gym membership by
tiscali
11 months ago I took out what I thought was a one year membership of a gym.
I signed a contract and a credit agreement which asked for payments to be
made monthly by direct debit for 12 months. I have made payments without
fail. I want to cancel it due to us not using it very much. Now the gym say
they need three months notice, even though my credit agreement is for 12
months. I checked the...

Remand duration limits in 1919 ? by
Tickettyboo
Don't know if anyone is able to help, but I am trying to find out if there
was a limit to the length of time an accused person could be held on
remand in 1919/20.
If its relevant, the case had been brought before the Petty Sessions in
Sept 1919 and they were remanded for trial at the Quarter Sessions ( the
charge was burglary)
I am rather hoping that the length of time between the two...

Divorce agreement by
Tx2
Wife has good job with better pay than husband; child is 16 and in full-
time college education.
Husband intends leaving as marriage has broken down, all debts will be
consolidated into mortgage which wife will continue to pay, house and
belongings thereafter left to wife. Husband starts new life elsewhere.
Nice easy separation then divorce, or heading for a fall in the legal
sense?

Fixed term contract and non-renewal by
Helen
Can someone please direct me to the current law on fixed term contracts?
Specifically, someone is employed on a 1 year fixed term contract (it's a
new contract which has not been renewed previously). I have been told that,
if the post itself is required, it is now not possible to *not* renew this
person's contract without falling foul of a possible claim for unfair
dismissal. Is this true?

Freeholder breaking term of a lease by
Mike P
Hi All,
I have an issue with the freeholder of the property, i own the
maisonette above a shop, and a new owner has taken control of the
shop,
He is a most petty man, and will not compromise on anything, and has
subsequently placed two large air conditioning units outside the rear
of the shop in the awning leading to my entrance. I have called the
council and found he hasn't had planning...

Forced to join with others - Human Rights violation? by

Brighton & Hove Council have recently issued 20 new taxi plates. Two of
the conditions are that
(1) they shall be wheelchair accessible - no problem there as it is now
an accepted condition throughout England and Wales,
but the next one states
The Proprietor shall ensure that the vehicle is attached to a radio
circuit operator whose operation comprises a minimum of 3 vehicles,

Car Engine Fit For Purpose/Quality of Goods by
alwaysaskingquestions
I bought a new top brand(1) luxury car four years ago and it has now had a
total engine failure with only 70,000 miles on the clock within a week of a
major service and the engine has to be replaced. I have been quoted £8K by
the main dealer to replace the engine, about £5K for the engine itself and
£3K for the fitting.
The car has been regularly serviced by the main dealer who says that...

"I am drunk" car sticker by
ajmoss_throwaway_account_001@hotmail.co.uk
If I were to affix a car sticker declaring to the world that,
"I am drunk", I might expect a quiet word from a policeman,
that if I didn't want to be stopped and breathalysed every
ten minutes I might like to remove the offending article.
But would it actually be breaking any law in itself?

Yes, ultimately a joint owner can apply to the court for an order for
the sale to take place.

sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies by
ChrisR
wrote in message
...
Hello,
In the UK there are three main ways to trade: sole traders,
partnerships, and limited companies.
Is there a "limited company act" and a "partnership act" that defines
how these entities work? Is there and law defining sole traders? If
so, what are their names and where can I find them?

Executor Bank Account (Tax) Question by
Martin
I am sole executor and main beneficiary of a relatives estate. This person
was a tax payer.
I will soon be opening an executors passbook account at a building society
so that funds from the deceased's accounts can be bought over and when this
is complete I can then distribute as per the Will.
My question is does the tax position of the account apply as per the
deceased's pre death status...

House selling nightmare. by
Kashmir
Hello.
I am in the middle of a very messy house sale at the moment and would
like some advice.
I put my house up for sale in August last year and almost immediately
had an offer from a young couple who were first time buyers. I accepted
their offer and the wheels of the process were set in motion.
The couple had the house surveyed and no problems were found. My
